SUMMARY:Renoviction By-law Survey
DESCRIPTION:We are working on a renoviction bylaw to help protect renters from situations where they may lose their homes unfairly during major repairs or renovations. \nThe Rental Renovation Licencing bylaw (commonly called a “Renoviction Bylaw”) would make sure landlords obtain a license before renovating rental properties and give renters the details they need to decide whether they want to move back into their home once the work is done. It’s about keeping the process fair\, transparent\, and safer for everyone.\n\n\nWe’re asking the community to help us refine proposed bylaw directions to:\n\n\nmake sure tenants can be protected;\nprovide the information people need make decisions;\nmake sure the application requirements are reasonable;\nremove unnecessary challenges the bylaw requirements may create\, and\nmake the bylaw and processes clear and easy to navigate.\n\n\nOur survey will walk you through different sections of the bylaw for your feedback.\n\n\nMore information on Have Your Say.

SUMMARY:Rental Replacement By-law survey
DESCRIPTION:People in our community are looking for housing that they can afford. To help\, we need to preserve the affordable housing and rentals that Guelph already has. \nA Rental Replacement Bylaw can help us do this. It requires landlords to get a permit from the City before removing or converting affordable units. If affordable units are removed\, the same number must be built again and rented at similar rates. \n\nWe want your help to align the bylaw as much as possible with the expectations of the community including: \n\nensuring the compensation methods align with community needs\, and\nconsidering unnecessary challenges the bylaw requirements may create.\n\nOur survey will ask for your thoughts on different sections of the proposed directions in the bylaw. \nMore information on Have Your Say.

SUMMARY:Healthy Landscapes Speaker Series: Creating healthy soil
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to dig deep into the secrets of soil health at our Speaker Series event – it’s gonna be dirt-tastic!\n\n\n\nDig into the foundations of great gardening with this three‑session series of talks on exploring how to truly improve your soil. Whether you’re tending a sprawling garden\, nurturing raised beds or keeping container plants thriving\, this series will give you the knowledge and confidence to build soil that supports healthier\, stronger\, more resilient plants. \nRegister now! \nWeek 1 – Soil Basics\nWhat is soil\, really? In this session\, we’ll break down the essential components—minerals\, organic matter\, water\, air—and discover how they interact to meet your plants’ needs. We’ll also look at how different gardening techniques can help or harm soil structure\, and what “good soil” actually looks\, feels and behaves like. \nWeek 2 – Nutrients and Fertilizers\nHealthy plants rely on the right nutrients in the right forms. This week focuses on how plants access nutrients\, the fascinating life of the rhizosphere and the role fertilizers play in supporting plant growth. You’ll learn when and how to use both synthetic and organic options\, and how to choose the right approach for your gardening goals. \nWeek 3 – The Secret to Healthy Soil\nIn our final session\, we bring everything together. What does truly healthy soil look like\, and how can you cultivate it in your own yard? We’ll explore practical\, sustainable ways to build soil that becomes richer and more productive year after year—giving you the healthiest plants and the best garden on the block. \nThis presentation series is only offered in person. There is no virtual option and no recordings. \nThis event is over three different nights: March 18\, March 25 and April 1. You only need to sign up once. SUMMARY:Healthy Landscapes Speaker Series: Close the garden gate; prevent invasive plants
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an eye-opening discussion on how to stop those pesky invasive plants from taking over – you won’t want to miss this! Register now!\n\n\n\nMost of the invasive plants spreading across Ontario did not arrive by accident. Gardeners with the best of intentions have intentionally introduced many to Canada\, and many continue to be sold by nurseries. \nIn Close the Garden Gate\, Master Gardener Cathy Kavassalis explores how commonly used garden plants can move beyond our garden beds and spread across land and water systems. Once established\, invasive plants affect farming\, forestry and fishing industries\, while causing long-term ecological damage and ongoing economic costs that negatively impact us all. \nTogether\, we’ll explore how we can slow the spread of invasive plants. By choosing native or non-invasive plants\, gardeners can help protect human well-being and Ontario’s biodiversity while still creating attractive\, well-functioning landscapes. Come and learn how you can contribute to a healthier planet\, one plant at a time. \nThis presentation is only offered as a virtual event. The recording will be available online following the event\, accessible until April 16. Questions can only be asked at the live virtual event. \nThe link for the event will be sent out before the event.
