Healthy Landscapes Speaker Series: Close the garden gate; prevent invasive plants
Most of the invasive plants spreading across Ontario did not arrive by accident. Gardeners with the best of intentions have intentionally introduced many to Canada, and many continue to be sold by nurseries.
In Close the Garden Gate, Master Gardener Cathy Kavassalis explores how commonly used garden plants can move beyond our garden beds and spread across land and water systems. Once established, invasive plants affect farming, forestry and fishing industries, while causing long-term ecological damage and ongoing economic costs that negatively impact us all.
Together, we’ll explore how we can slow the spread of invasive plants. By choosing native or non-invasive plants, gardeners can help protect human well-being and Ontario’s biodiversity while still creating attractive, well-functioning landscapes. Come and learn how you can contribute to a healthier planet, one plant at a time.
This presentation is only offered as a virtual event. The recording will be available online following the event, accessible until April 16. Questions can only be asked at the live virtual event.
